Work on new content-management system progresses

In June 2008, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and a group of early adopters began work with the RedDot content-management system, now known as the WiscWeb Content Management Service (WWCMS).

DoIT trainers and support technicians have been working with the software and early adopters during the past year. Early adopters and offices scheduled for training include the School of Nursing; university General Education; School of Library and Information Studies; Office of the Provost; University Communications; Office of the Registrar; Office of the Chief Information Officer; Center for Leadership and Involvement; Office of Child Care and Family Resources; and the departments of Botany, English and Horticulture.

Many other offices have expressed interest and plan to participate as soon as the service is offered. A general service offering will be available to campus in the fall. Training requirements, templates and support documentation are being developed this summer.

A leadership team representing early adopters and major divisions on campus has met during the past year to discuss best practices and policy issues. The team’s work can be found in the WCMLT folder in My WebSpace.

The only significant barrier so far is that it takes most offices longer than anticipated to update and organize their content for migration to the new system. Documents will be prepared to help offices with the process, and more information on general training will be released shortly.
