‘Women on Boards’ Seminar To Take Place May 7-8
Professionals who run boards, serve on boards or want to serve on boards are invited to attend a special seminar on corporate governance at Milwaukee’s University Club May 7-8.
“Women on Boards: The Big Picture” is designed to help participants maximize their board effectiveness. It is a sequel to a series of three seminars held last fall in Madison. Women on Boards is sponsored by the UW–Madison School of Business Executive in Residence program and the Women in Business Council.
Beginning with a 5 p.m. reception on May 7, the limited-enrollment event features Martha Seger, former Federal Reserve Board governor and director of several Fortune 500 companies, including Milwaukee’s Johnson Controls. On May 8, guest speakers and instructors include Andy Policano, dean of the UW-Madison School of Business, on strategic planning and techniques for leading change; T. Michael Bolger, president and CEO of the Medical College of Wisconsin on principles for successful board trusteeship; and Madeleine Condit, vice president of Korn/Ferry, Chicago, on the role of executive search firms in placing women on boards.
Nationally prominent panelists include Kathy Hudson, president and CEO, W.H. Brady Co.; Carol Skornicka, vice president and general counsel, Midwest Express Airlines; Wisconsin State Senator Margaret Farrow and Wendy Werkmeister, president of the Women’s Business Initiative. Delora Newton, director of the governor’s appointments office, will explain the process and present a schedule of state board openings. The seminar also features instruction on using financial statements to assess an organization’s financial health. The accounting module will be taught by Larry Rittenberg, chair of the UW–Madison accounting department and R.D. Nair, a senior associate dean and accounting professor.
Those interested in a brochure or signing up may call Phyllis Lovrien, (608) 262 7371, at the UW–Madison School of Business. Cost for the seminar is $195.
