WIAA tournaments impact parking, benefit campus, city
It’s high school tournament time and the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Kohl Center is again hosting the WIAA wrestling, boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments.
Here’s when those events will take place:
• Individual wrestling tournament: Thursday, Feb. 25 through Saturday, Feb. 27.
• Boys’ basketball tournament: Thursday, March 18 through Saturday, March 20.
• Girls’ basketball tournament: Thursday, March 25 through Saturday, March 27.
Chancellor Biddy Martin, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Athletic Director Barry Alvarez are asking for your help in making this year’s events as accessible as possible for the athletes, parents, and spectators.
To successfully provide thousands of tournament guests with parking UW Transportation Services needs the cooperation of UW–Madison campus parking permit holders. Tournament guests will be parking close to the Kohl Center to help reduce traffic congestion on campus. Permit holders in lots 29, 46, 83, 88, and 91 should visit Transportation Services’ webpage for information on WIAA impacts to permit holders.
WIAA tournaments are important to UW–Madison and the city at large. They generate approximately $26 million for Madison-area businesses, serve as a recruiting tool for future Badgers, and help to offset the cost of parking for UW–Madison permit customers.
