WARF appoints Tong to board presidency

Business leader Peter Tong has been appointed the new president of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) board of trustees. Tong, who was appointed May 9, succeeds John W. Rowe, who will remain a member of the board.

Tong, who has an M.S. in electrical engineering from UW–Madison, is a current trustee and until stepping into the presidency was co-chair of the technology commercialization committee. Tong has been a member of the WARF board since 2005. During his career in business he has served as a corporate director and consultant in the medical technology sector. He currently serves as director on the boards of two Madison companies, Promega and Single Wire.

“Peter brings a depth of technical and entrepreneurial experience,” says WARF Managing Director Carl Gulbrandsen. “We look forward to his tenure as president of the board.”

Tong has been involved in the creation of a number of business enterprises, including T & T Technology, Inc., and E for M Corporation. He also helped establish the UW–Madison Technology Enterprise Cooperative (UW-TEC) and for the last 15 years has funded the Tong Prototype Prize Competition. In 1996 he funded the Tong Student Auditorium in the Engineering Centers Building.

“I’m honored,” says Tong. “I hope to bring energy and continuity to this new role.”

Rowe, a former chairman and CEO of Exelon Corporation, served as president since 2009.
