WAA welcomes prospective students

February 13, 2001

The Wisconsin Alumni Association plans to welcome more than 200 students from targeted high schools in the Milwaukee and Chicago areas to the university as part of WAA’s Prospective Scholars Days.

The events create opportunities for high school students and parents to tour campus and visit with current students, faculty and alumni as they consider options for future education.

UW alumni also participate as mentors Prospective Scholars Day events, helping to answer questions from potential students and their parents.

“Part of our vision is cultivating students who will bring intellect and diversity to the UW–Madison campus. This type of recruitment is an important element in Plan 2008,” says Paula Bonner, WAA executive director. “The number of participating high school programs has grown from one to five, so we’re looking forward to a continued increase in the number of diverse students enrolling in our university.”

WAA has invited students from INROADS (Milwaukee) and Providence St. Mel (Chicago) for events Saturday, Feb 17. On Saturday, Feb. 24, students from South Division High School and the Early Identification Program in Milwaukee will be visiting campus, as well as students from Chicago’s Senn Metropolitan Academy.
