WAA to host celebration for international graduates

April 29, 2004

The Wisconsin Alumni Association will celebrate the achievements of UW–Madison’s graduating international students during a free reception on Wednesday, May 5, at the Pyle Center.

The International Student Graduation Celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome from Gilles Bousquet, dean of International Studies, and Papa Demba Sarr, ’96, interim director of International Student Services. The event features a festive evening of food, conversation, and the music of the Atimevu Drum and Dance Ensemble.

Students are encouraged to wear traditional dress from their home countries and are welcome to invite a favorite professor and/or mentor, as well as family members, to the celebration.

“International students are an important part of the campus community,” says WAA President and CEO Paula Bonner. “This is a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and recognize the diversity they bring to the UW.”

Students who want to attend the reception should register online at http://uwalumni.com/ISGC by Tuesday, May 4. Each student can bring up to two guests.
