WAA hosts UW marathoners

May 23, 2002

The Wisconsin Alumni Lifelong Learning online marathon training program will culminate May 25-26 in the running of the Mad City Marathon.

This is the final stage for participants in the Wisconsin Alumni Lifelong Learning online marathon course that began in January of this year. Nine online course participants and three additional interested runners will convene in Madison on Saturday for pre-race activities at the Fluno Center for Executive Education, 601 University Ave.

Course instructor Ron Carda of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Kinesiology Department will lead runners on a bus tour of the course and will lecture on race day preparation, strategy and race recovery.

Participants scheduled to run the marathon include a mother-daughter team from Springfield, Ill., who have been training together; a doctor from Neenah who has completed five marathons; and neighbors from Platteville who have also been training together. A teacher from Lewistown, Mont., and a 1986 UW grad from Arlington, Va., will be traveling the farthest to participate.

Wisconsin Alumni Lifelong Learning is a joint venture between the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies.
