WAA hosts career reception for students of color
The third annual Career Links Reception for alumni, students, faculty and staff will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, Alumni Lounge of the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St.
The Wisconsin Alumni Association, Letters and Science/Human Ecology Career Services and Academic Advancement Program will host the evening of dialogue and networking.
This event gives students of color attending UW–Madison the opportunity to speak directly with alumni about their educational and career paths. It also serves as a time for alumni to discuss with students some of the current issues and trends in today’s workplace.
“The event plays an important role in making connections and fostering a sense of community between students and alumni. These contacts will carry over when the students are making career decisions or looking for future employers,” says Paula Bonner, president and CEO of the RSVP Wisconsin Alumni Association.
One of last year’s attendees, Diallo Shabazz, found the mentoring experience valuable. In a letter to the Letters and Science /Human Ecology Career Center he wrote, “Being mentored allowed me to close my immature eyes and look through the lens of my mentors to see a broader perspective of history, my possibilities of academic achievement and future opportunities.”
Alumni wishing to attend can RSVP .
