Vilas Associates Announced

The Graduate School has announced the latest tenured faculty to be named Vilas Associates in the Biological, Physical and Social Sciences, and in the Humanities.

These faculty members will receive funding for the summers of 1997 and 1998 to further their research and scholarly efforts. Preference is given to mid-career faculty, defined as professors with between five and 20 years of experience after tenure. Funding for the programs comes from the Vilas Trustees. The amount of support cannot exceed $18,900 during the summer, in addition to $5,000 each associate receives for research support in 1997-98 and 1998-99.

The newest Vilas Associates and their respective programs include:

Biological Sciences: John Fallon, anatomy; Li Li Ji, kinesiology; Colleen Hayes, biochemistry; Warren Heideman, pharmacy; William Reznikoff, biochemistry; and Daniel Wikler, history of medicine.

Physical Sciences: Douglas Bates, statistics; Edward Churchwell, astronomy; Walter Drugan, nuclear engineering; Clark Landis, chemistry; Wei-Yin Loh, statistics; Dan McCammon, physics; Thomas Reps, computer sciences; Andreas Seeger, mathematics; Guri Sohi, computer sciences; and James Weisshaar, chemistry.

Social Sciences: Leonard Abbeduto, educational psychology; James Dannemiller, psychology; Robin Douthitt, human ecology; Maribeth Gettinger, educational psychology; Charles Halaby, sociology; Jan Heide, business; Rogers Hollingsworth, history; Jonathan Kenoyer, anthropology; Arthur McEvoy, law; and Marion Smiley, political science.
