UW students explore life issues in dance concert

Issues ranging from death, autism, empowering relationships, immigration and identity inspired emerging artists in the Dance Program to choreograph and create new, innovative works for the Fall Student Concert entitled “text.”

The concert runs Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 21-23, at 8 p.m. in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance at Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave. Admission is $8 for students and $10 for the general public, except on Oct. 21, when students will be admitted for $5. All tickets will be sold at the door.

A variety of multimedia, solo and group works were auditioned and selected for this year’s concert. Student artists showing pieces include: Rebecca Ball, senior (Montclair, N.J.); Rebecca Chelminiak, senior (Mosinee, Wis.); Rosemary Cisneros-Kostic, senior (Chicago, Ill.); Ashley Condon, senior (Minneapolis, Minn.); Manu Jobst, junior (Munich, Germany); Randy Luecke, senior (Dodgeville, Wis.); Anne Mundigler, senior (Racine, Wis.); Natalie Teichmann, (senior, Peoria, Ill.); Tai KathineWords, senior (Milwaukee, Wis.); and Laura Zimmerman, senior, (Stevens Point, Wis.)

Two of the student works will be selected to represent the university at the American College Dance Festival next spring. In addition, the Anna R. Nassif Dance Award for Choreography will be awarded to a senior choreographer at the Oct. 23 performance. A post-concert reception will be held that same evening in the Virginia F. Harrison Parlor. All concertgoers are invited to attend.
