UW rated high for accommodating disabled students
The university is once again getting top marks nationally for its efforts to serve students with disabilities.
HalfthePlanet.com, a popular Internet site for the disabled, has ranked UW–Madison among the top 10 public universities for students who are disabled. The e-zine based its rankings on ratings by U.S. News and World Report.
“UW-Madison is consistently rated as one of the best campuses for students with disabilities because we have an environment of mutual respect and trust,” says J. Trey Duffy, director of UW–Madison’s McBurney Disability Resource Center. “Students accept responsibility for upholding the academic integrity of the institution, and the faculty creatively and persistently find innovative methods for accommodating students.”
HalfthePlanet’s ranking is the third time in last three years that the university has been named one of the most accessible campuses in the country for disabled students.
WE Magazine’s July-August 1999 issue ranked UW–Madison the No. 1 university in the country for its efforts to accommodate students with disabilities. In its September 1998 issue, New Mobility magazine listed UW–Madison and UW-Whitewater as the fourth-best universities nationally for
