UW-Madison offers fund-raising program for nonprofits

May 18, 2004 By Helen Capellaro

Fund raising and development for nonprofit organizations is the subject of a conference to be held at the School of Business, Monday-Wednesday, May 24-26.

The conference is designed to inform people at all levels – from executives to volunteers – about strategies, best practices and techniques to help their nonprofit groups raise money. Fifteen professionals will lead discussions at Grainger Hall, 975 University Ave.

Speakers are executives from area organizations, including Ann Strick, executive director for the Beloit Memorial Hospital Foundation; John Uselman, director of development at Edgewood College; Boris Frank, consultant to nonprofits; Buck Joseph, associate professor of management at the School of Business; and several executives from the UW Foundation, one of the most successful collegiate-level development agencies in the United States.

Cost to attend the conference is $395, or $350 if more than one person from an organization attends. Three Koch scholarships, in the amounts of $500, $300 and $200, are available for attending the conference. Scholarship applicants are asked to write an essay, “Why I Love Working for My Organization.” The winners, who will be announced at the conference, will then be asked to read their essays.

Enrollment is limited. For more information, or to register, contact Constance Rieben at (608) 265-2034 or crieben@bus.wisc.edu.
