UW-Madison hosts summer youth activities fair
The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Summer Youth Activities Fair will be held from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Villager Mall, 2300 S. Park St.
Parents and students will find exhibitors from many of the skill-building programs — academic, recreational and athletic — offered by postsecondary educational institutions in Dane County this summer.
This program is open to all youth and families of Madison and Dane County. Many of the programs have a special focus on the recruitment and retention of families of color and low-income families for summer and academic precollege programs.
The Family Voices Project of the School of Human Ecology has teamed with the Academic Partnerships Program of University Health Services (UHS) to coordinate the fair. This year’s theme is “enroll with a goal.”
“Don’t miss out on getting your children enrolled in a summer activity program that will enhance their goals for academic, athletic and personal growth,” says Stan Woodard, community coordinator of Family Voices. “Come to the fair and find out how to ‘enroll with a goal.'”
This year’s event includes programs from UW Athletics, the Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence, Madison Area Technical College (MYCAP), Edgewood College Summer and Precollege Programs, the UW–Madison School of Business, the UW–Madison School of Music, the Madison Metropolitan School District and many others.
Space Place, also located in the Villager Mall, will be open during the fair for people who would like to visit astronomy and outer-space exhibits.
Light refreshments will be served, and parking is available free of charge. There is no charge for the event. Sponsors and volunteers are welcome. For more information, call Woodard at (608) 213-7004 or (608) 260-2676.
