UW-Madison chancellor search to commence in fall
The national search for UW–Madison’s next chancellor will begin in the fall with the formation of a campus search and screen committee, to be appointed by UW System President Kevin P. Reilly.

Working with Interim Chancellor David Ward and shared governance groups, Reilly will appoint a diverse committee comprised of faculty, academic staff, classified staff, students, and community representatives.
“We take a very inclusive approach to this process, reflecting UW’s longstanding commitment to shared governance,” Reilly says. “We’ll begin by inviting each of the governance groups to nominate individuals who are willing to serve, ensuring that we have broad representation from across the institution.”
The search committee will undertake the effort of seeking applicants and nominees, then evaluating those candidates thoroughly. The committee will recommend a slate of finalists to Reilly and a special committee of Regents appointed by the board president. After the slate of finalists is announced, the search committee will host a series of public forums and conversations, so that all members of the UW community can interact directly with the finalists.
After interviewing the finalists, Reilly and members of the Regent committee make a formal recommendation on the next chancellor to the full Board of Regents, which must approve the appointment.
The goal is to have a new chancellor in place by summer 2013, when Ward’s interim appointment is scheduled to end. Last October, four months after appointing Ward to a one-year interim term, Reilly extended Ward’s interim term to two years.
