UW-Madison alumnus named 2005 e-Business Institute Distinguished Fellow

UW–Madison computer science graduate Matt Korn will receive the 2005 UW e-Business Institute Distinguished Fellow Award at the eighth annual e-Business Best Practices and Emerging Technologies conference on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Monona Terrace, One John Nolen Drive, Madison. The award will be given at 11 a.m., followed by Korn’s presentation, “Managing the World’s Largest Network.”

Korn is executive vice president of network and data center operations at America Online (AOL). He is responsible for the operation of the network and systems that support AOL’s interactive media products. Korn joined AOL in 1993 and has led the scaling of the AOL service operations from 2,000 concurrent users to more than 2.5 million concurrent users. He oversees a staff of approximately 1,000 network engineers and programmers worldwide.

The UW e-Business Institute’s Distinguished Fellow Award was founded in 2003 to honor visionaries who have made significant achievements and advancements in the areas of information technology and e-business. Past recipients include Katherine Hudson, chairman of the board, Brady Corp., and Jerry Shereshewsky, ambassador plentipotentiary to Madison Avenue, Yahoo!

The conference is hosted by the UW e-Business Institute, Wisconsin’s leading e-business center for multidisciplinary research collaboration, technology innovation and industry outreach. The institute expands upon the peer-group collaboration and knowledge-sharing among UW e-Business Consortium members — business executives and senior managers from more than 60 of the Midwest’s leading companies.
