UW Dance Professor, Students Perform at Civic Center
Due to high demand, a Sunday (Feb. 8) 3 p.m. performance by Li Chiao-Ping Dance has been added to the company’s weekend schedule of performances at the Madison Civic Center’s Spotlight Room. Led by artistic director and UW–Madison professor of dance Li Chiao-Ping, the company will perform a 90-minute program featuring six pieces choreographed by Li.
The program features solos by two guest artists, Martha Curtis and UW–Madison alumna Tania Isaac.
In addition to the two solos, the concert will include parts one and two of Fin de Sihcle, choreographed and performed by Li Chiao-Ping, and a new piece set to the music of Mozart.
Four UW–Madison students – Ai Asai, Emily Blacik, Rebecca Cottle and Yunchen Liu – and alumna Valerie Hollnagel will be dancing with Li Chiao-Ping Dance for the first time during the weekend concerts. Lighting design is by graduate student Barry Gawinski.
Li’s choreographic style is intensely athletic and expressive, owing to her background in competitive gymnastics as a youth.
Li is internationally respected in the dance world, frequently appearing in concert or residence at major institutions such as Bates Dance Festival, The Yard (Nantucket Island), and the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC.
Tickets are $12 and are general admission. For tickets, call the Civic Center Ticket office at 608-266-9055.
