University statement on ASM resolution

The following statement was shared to media by University Communications on March 30.

“We are encouraged that a number of students took part in a vigorous, respectful debate tonight (Wednesday, March 29). The resolution being debated was in large part a statement of support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The resolution forwarded arguments that make overly broad assertions and are part of a movement advocating for a comprehensive boycott of Israel including its academic institutions, which Chancellor Blank has spoken out against previously.”

“We were concerned about the impact this resolution would have on Jewish members of our community and on our campus climate efforts. Moving forward, we encourage students seeking to address geopolitical conflicts that span generations to take the time to understand fully the complex nature of these issues and to seek input from across the campus community.”
