University Health Services receives national accreditation

University Health Services (UHS) has once again received national recognition for providing the highest levels of quality care.

UHS was recently reaccredited for three years, the maximum level offered, by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The award is given to those ambulatory care centers that have met nationally recognized standards for quality health care set by the association.

“This is an important achievement,” says Sarah Van Orman, executive director of UHS. “Accreditation by the AAAHC is part of our commitment to providing high-quality medical and counseling care to UW–Madison students.”

Before accreditation was awarded, UHS participated in a rigorous evaluation process, including an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey conducted by the Accreditation Association’s expert surveyors. The health center was required to meet standards in several areas, such as quality of care, clinical records and health information, facilities and environment, and health education and health promotion.

“The students’ health and well-being is our top priority, and the accreditation process challenges us to continuously maintain and improve our quality of service,” says Van Orman. “Thanks to our dedicated staff, we have once again met this challenge. I am fortunate to be part of a team that strives for nothing less than the best.”

UHS was one of the first college health services in the country to receive AAAHC accreditation and has been continuously accredited since 1984.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), is headquartered in Skokie, Ill. Founded in 1979, it is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation, with more than 4,500 organizations accredited nationwide.
