Undergraduate art gallery opens in Red Gym
With the opening of the Red Gym, a new gallery space for student exhibits has been created. The Class of 1973 Gallery located on the 2nd floor of the Red Gym is the new location for student art work with priority given to undergraduate students.
According to Steve Saffian, Assistant Dean of Students and Project Manager for the Red Gym renovation, “the lack of exhibition space on campus particulary for undergraduate students was discussed and the location to create an undergraduate exhibition space seemed perfect for a building who’s function is largely student and visitor services.”
The gallery is being managed by the Hellbound Pineapple, a student organization on campus made up of primarily art students with assistance from the Student Organization Office.
The first exhibit “Suture” is currently running until November 20th. Kevin Wilbanks, the artist, states that his exhibit is about his “relationship with pain, uneasy moods and his facination with the human body. It is a sculptural exploration of beauty, horror and the wonders of human anatomy.”
Undergraduate students interested in exhibiting in the gallery can pick up applications in the Art Department Office in the Humanities Building and in the Student Organization Office in 239 Red Gym. For more information contact Renee Alfano, Student Organization Office, 262-2421.
