U.S. News ranks grad programs
The university earned several high rankings in the 2002 rating of graduate programs scheduled for release today, April 5, by U.S. News & World Report.
“Graduate education continues to be a major strength of UW–Madison, as indicated by many measures,” says Martin Cadwallader, interim dean of the Graduate School.
“We believe that prospective graduate students should consider many factors, not just rankings, in selecting the program that best fits their goals,” Cadwallader adds. “UW-Madison is a great choice, and our graduate students are making major contributions to our research and education mission.”
The magazine does not survey all disciplines every year, but the following rankings were drawn from new data.
- Applied Mathematics, 14th, tied with Northwestern University, Rice University and University of Washington.
- Biological Sciences, 12th, tied with Duke University.
- Business, 46th, tied with University of Illinois -Urbana-Champaign and Wake Forest University.
- Chemistry, 8th, tied with Columbia University and Cornell University of New York.
- Computer Science, 10th, tied with California Institute of Technology.
- Education, 6th.
- Engineering, 15th, tied with Penn State University-University Park.
- Law, 25th, tied with Boston University, George Washington University, University of Illinois -Urbana-Champaign, University of Washington and Washington University in St. Louis.
- Mathematics, 13th, tied with Columbia University.
- Physics, 16th, tied with University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-San Diego and University of Washington.
- Medical, 18th in primary care, tied with University of Pittsburgh; 31st in research, tied in research with University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the Albert Einstein School at Yeshiva University in New York.
