Aides to members of Congress from Wisconsin toured UW–Madison this week, including a stop at the Center for Dairy research, where they sampled dairy products developed in the state with the benefit of the center’s expertise. As part of a "Build Like a Girl" outreach event on Aug. 10, hosted by Miron Construction, nearly 15 4th- through 6th-grade girls from the Boys and Girls Club of Milwaukee helped out on to the construction site for the Nicholas Recreation Center at UW–Madison. Read More

A treat for all hours
An employee appreciation ice cream social was held for second- and third-shift staff the night of Aug. 1 in Varsity Hall at Union South. The event, sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, included volunteer servers from leadership in several campus units whose workers keep the campus running through the late night and early morning hours. Ferguson back on his feet with UW’s help
Ferguson the miniature donkey is walking again after a veterinarian at the School of Veterinary Medicine amputated his deformed hoof, and a prosthetist fitted him with an artificial limb. Read More
Latino Youth Summit 2018
More than 70 middle school students from the Madison Metropolitan School District participated in the Latino Youth Summit this week. The two-day outreach event got students involved in culturally responsive workshops to explore their path from middle school to high school and college. Read More
Where the university meets the state
Thirty-eight faculty and academic staff with a desire to gain a deeper understanding of the perspectives and experiences of Wisconsinites participated in the 2018 Wisconsin Idea Seminar. The tour included a potato farm in the state's Central Sands region, among nearly 20 stops from the UW–Madison campus to Lake Superior. Read More
K-9 care
A student-run UW veterinary medical training program for Wisconsin police officer-K-9 teams took place as part of a larger technical training program at Camp Randall Stadium June 6. The session provided officers with training on taking vitals, CPR, K-9 first aid, and recognizing emergency situations such as heat stroke in their K-9 partners. Read More
