The snow didn't dampen spirits at the 38th annual Crazyleg Classic, as more than 10,000 people participated in the 8k run, wheelchair and 2-mile walk event on Saturday, April 27.

Ten images and two videos by University of Wisconsin–Madison students, faculty and staff have been named winners of the 2019 Cool Science Image Contest. The contest recognizes the technical and creative skills required to capture images or video that document science or nature.

As a springtime rain passed late on a recent Sunday, a group of six friends — five international graduate students from India and another who is living and working in Madison — gathered to play a pickup game of cricket on the still-damp artificial turf of the UW Marching Band’s practice field on the west side of campus.
UW–Madison Day at the Capitol
More than 20 graduate student research projects were on display for Wisconsin elected officials in the ornate North Hearing Room during UW–Madison Day at the Capitol April 10. Legislators and staff also heard flash talks by UW experts, and UW–Madison alumni participated in individual meetings with their state senators and representatives.

Eight members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison community have been selected by the University Staff Awards Selection Committee to receive the 2019 University Staff Recognition Award. They were recognized for their achievement at an event March 29.

2019 Distinguished Teaching Awards
Ten faculty members have been chosen to receive this year’s Distinguished Teaching Awards, an honor given out since 1953 to recognize the university’s finest educators. Chancellor Rebecca Blank and Provost Sarah Mangelsdorf will present the awards at a 5 p.m. ceremony April 10 at the Pyle Center.

The five women were chosen for their advocacy on behalf of disadvantaged populations; scholarly research on race, ethnicity and indigeneity; and community building.
Governor visits research institutes in Discovery Building
Governor Tony Evers, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes and state Representative Chris Taylor toured the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and the Morgridge Institute for Research in the Discovery Building Tuesday to discuss the importance of state investments in higher education. They met with faculty and staff members and graduate students doing research in such fields as systems biology, psychology, data science, tissue engineering and others.
New PEOPLE program office opens
UW-Madison’s Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence held a grand opening on Wednesday at its new site at Rufus King Middle School in Milwaukee.
