Top 4 UW-Madison police chief candidates to visit campus

Members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison community and general public will have opportunities starting later this month to meet and talk with finalists for the position of UW–Madison chief of police.

Each of the four candidates will give a presentation and answer questions in open forums. The following are the candidates and dates, times and locations of the forums:

Kristen Roman, captain, City of Madison Police Department
Tuesday, Nov. 29, 10 to 11 a.m., Marquee Cinema, Union South

Gregory Habeck, assistant chief of police, UW-Milwaukee Police Department
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 10 to 11 a.m., Marquee Cinema, Union South

Thomas Phillips, chief of police, Northern Illinois University
Thursday, Dec. 1, 10 to 11 a.m., VandeBerg Auditorium, Pyle Center

John Vinson, chief of police, University of Washington Police Department
Friday, Dec. 2, 9 to 10 a.m., VandeBerg Auditorium, Pyle Center

While visiting the UW–Madison campus, the police chief finalists also will meet with UW Police Department staff, university leaders, and faculty, staff and student groups.

The UW–Madison chief of police leads the UW Police Department and supports the university’s mission as it works to maintain and enhance safe learning and work environments. The chief directs all department functions and operations and works closely with UW–Madison administration, faculty, staff and students to address problems and strengthen the campus community.

The selected candidate will succeed Susan Riseling, who served as UW–Madison chief of police for the past 25 years. Riseling retired in August. Brian Bridges is serving as interim chief.

A 13-member search and screen committee of faculty, staff, students and community members recommended the four finalists to Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Laurent Heller.
