RE: TIP/ALUMNI WEEKEND
The Wisconsin Alumni Association is hosting Alumni Weekend at the University of Wisconsin–Madison this weekend with events beginning Thursday, April 22.
Events include several opportunities for feature photography and for reporters to talk with alumni returning to campus. To make arrangements to attend any of these events, please contact WAA’s Kate Dixon at news@uwalumni.com.
Thursday, April 22
- Small groups of alumni will enjoy a guided walk through campus and a private tour of Camp Randall Stadium at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The tours depart from the Wisconsin Alumni Association, 650 N. Lake Street.
- The 74th annual Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. in the Wisconsin Union Theater at Memorial Union. Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend. Honorees include Robert Barnett ’68 and Rita Braver ’70; Haynes Johnson MS’56 and Kathryn Oberly ’71, JD’73; and Arnold Weiss ’51, LLB’53. Friday, April 23
- The Day on Campus: Food Summit is a free day of learning for all, focused entirely on food-related issues. Inspired by the selection of “In Defense of Food” as the reading for the campus and community common-book program, Go Big Read, lectures featuring a variety of UW–Madison faculty experts run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Memorial Union. Former Sen. George McGovern will give a keynote address at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon featuring novelist Michelle Wildgen ’97 at 12 p.m. Details are at uwalumni.com/dayoncampus.
- Alumni everywhere will be wearing Badger red to work and play on Badger Spirit Day, showcasing the valuable role that UW grads play in the workforce and in communities around the world. A photo contest is open to alumni and friends. Details at uwalumni.com/spiritday.
- Members of the Class of 1960 will begin their 50th class reunion by gathering for a showing of “Being Bucky” at 5:30 p.m. in the AT&T Lounge at the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street.

Saturday, April 24
- Alumni runners in cities across the nation will participate in local races as part of the first-ever Crazylegs World, an extension of the Crazylegs Classic in Madison. Alumni chapters have organized races are scheduled in Austin, Texas; Chicago; Los Angeles; Orange County, Calif.; New York; Portland; St. Louis; and Detroit.
