Two UW–Madison engineers named to National Academy of Engineering

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced it has named two University of Wisconsin–Madison engineering professors to its 2015 class of new members. Grainger Professor of Power Electronics and Electrical Machines Thomas M. Jahns and Steenbock Professor of Engineering Physics Raymond J. Fonck are among the 67 new members and 12 foreign members elected to the NAE in 2015.

University of Wisconsin–Madison chemistry professor Shannon Stahl is one of five scientists nationwide to receive a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in recognition of his research on using oxygen from the air in chemical reactions.

Herbarium director receives award for telling the story of plants

Ken Cameron, director of the Wisconsin State Herbarium, received the Peter Raven Award from the American Society of Plant Taxonomists Aug. 5. Cameron, also a professor of botany at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is a world expert on the orchid family.
