Stem Cell Symposium to focus on tissue engineering, limb regeneration

Recent sightings: Dancers upon stilts
Dancers took to stilts for a Brooklyn Jumbies workshop in Lathrop Hall on Saturday, Feb. 28. Participants worked with the dance performance group, which teaches cultural elements of the African diaspora like stilt walking, and Chris Walker, a UW–Madison associate professor of dance, to learn new dance moves in preparation for “Strut!” — a university dance event scheduled for May 2. The workshop was hosted by the UW–Madison Arts Institute as part of Laura Anderson Barbata’s spring interdisciplinary arts residency.

Darwin Day celebration focuses on islands, isolation
What do Madagascar and Jurassic Park have in common? Both are island-based evolutionary “experiments” that will be highlighted in this year’s Darwin Day celebrations, sponsored by the J.F. Crow Institute for the Study of Evolution at UW–Madison and its partners. “Darwin Day 2015: Islands and Isolation” will run all day Thursday, Feb. 12, and focus on the unique opportunity that islands provide to witness evolution and the diversity of life.

By promoting its theme of sustainability — relating to self-care, as well as creative approaches in education that ready students to step into their role as civic and workplace leaders upon graduation — the conference will offer opportunities for participants to pursue their work with a healthier, more strategic focus.
