Botanical beauty
The Botany Garden is a green and fragrant oasis in a sea of buildings and traffic. The 1.2 acre garden is situated along University Avenue between Chamberlin, Birge and Lathrop halls. It features trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and annuals with more than 500 species representing over 140 families and 40 taxonomic orders of plants from all over the world.

Crowds thronged the Memorial Union Terrace this week as it reopened following a major renovation.
After long hiatus, Washburn Observatory public viewing to resume
The observatory had closed unexpectedly in April 2014 when a motor and gear box that operate a sliding door on the dome malfunctioned.

On Aug. 12, 2015, construction workers used heavy-duty equipment to demolish an aging pedestrian bridge that spanned University Avenue between the Mosse Humanities Building, foreground, and Vilas Hall.
Pedestrian bridge to be removed next week
Removal of the pedestrian bridge over University Avenue between the George L. Mosse Humanities Building and Vilas Hall is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 10, with work continuing throughout the week.
