Three deans up for 5-year reviews
Every five years of their tenure, deans of the university’s schools and colleges undergo a university review to assess their academic and administrative leadership and performance in such areas as external relations and resource management. This fall, reviews are underway for Wisconsin School of Business Dean François Ortalo-Magné, Division of Continuing Studies Dean Jeffrey Russell, and Law School Dean Margaret Raymond.

Susan Fischer has helped countless UW–Madison students navigate the complicated student financial aid system over the last three decades. One could say that thousands of degree holders would not have achieved their higher education goals without her and her team of dedicated colleagues. Everett Mitchell receives award for community impact
As director of community relations for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Everett Mitchell often draws upon multiple aspects of his identity – attorney, pastor, community leader – to bridge divides through engagement with people he serves. In recognition of his work advancing civil rights, justice and compassion, the board of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute (CHHI) has voted unanimously to present him with its Difference Maker Award.
Drinkwater, Greenberg to fill research leadership posts
Norman Drinkwater, a UW–Madison professor of oncology, and Jan Greenberg, a UW–Madison professor of social work, have been named associate vice chancellors in the Office of Research and Graduate Education. Greenberg will lead the area of social studies while Drinkwater will lead the biological sciences.
UW-Madison names Hess School of Education dean
Diana Hess, senior vice president of the Spencer Foundation in Chicago, has been named dean of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Hess, who is also a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the UW, will begin Aug. 1.
Bochsler chosen to lead Veterinary Diagnostic Lab
Philip Bochsler, chief of pathology at the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (WVDL), has been selected as the lab’s next director. Bochsler will assume his new duties Monday, July 6.

Carl Gulbrandsen, who joined the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) in 1997 and became managing director in 2000, will retire in 2016.
