New Bucky on Parade celebrates 175 years, honors UW–Madison’s past, present, and future
The new statue, featuring iconography that represents the university’s past, present, and future, was painted by Art Professor John Hitchcock, with assistance from UW–Madison student Kaylee Herrmann, an undergraduate with the Art Department.
Bucky and the band hand John Wiley a birthday surprise
Several members of the UW Marching Band, Bucky Badger and invited guests made an early-morning surprise visit to the Madison home of Chancellor Emeritus John Wiley to celebrate Wiley’s 80th birthday on March 23. Wiley led UW–Madison from 2001 to 2008.

The Bucky on Parade public art project ends on Sept. 12, and the next day most of the distinctively decorated statues will be removed from their summer display sites.

How do you Bucky on Parade?
The Bucky on Parade project placed 85 life-size Bucky Badger statues throughout Madison and Dane County, and they've proven to be a big draw for many.
Bucky on Parade feature: Jill Iwanski
Artist Jill Iwanski designed and constructed the "... And On Wisconsin!" Bucky statue as a tribute to her time as a trombone player in the UW Marching Band. "My involvement in the Marching Band hugely shaped my time at UW and helped make me who I am today," she says.
A festival of Badger fans and players
With the excitement of the upcoming season in the air, Wisconsin Badger football players mingled with fans, signing autographs and chatting, at Football Family Fun Day at Camp Randall Stadium on Aug. 1.
Bucky on Parade feature: S.V. Medaris
Artist S.V. Medaris was inspired to create Retro Bucky, a display of the various Bucky logos since the 1930s, by her love for the Bucky logo. "I had a Bucky Badger sweatshirt that I wore, like, always," Medaris said after her family moved to Wisconsin from Southern California. "I was in love with that logo/image from the start."
Bucky on Parade feature: Megan Breene and Allyson Casey
Megan Breene and Allyson Casey, both graphic designers at the Wisconsin Union, designed and painted Sunset Bucky for Bucky on Parade, a public art project. They hope their Bucky reminds people of nights spent on the Terrace, which has become an icon of Madison.
Chancellor Blank reaches 5-year milestone
Rebecca Blank has now been chancellor of UW–Madison for five years. On this anniversary, she celebrated with Bucky Badger and shared some reflections about what's been accomplished during that time. "Everything here that gets done is a team effort," she says.
Bucky on Parade feature: Nicole Rosenbaum
Nicole Rosenbaum, a senior at UW graduating with an Art Education degree, designed "Terrace Bucky" and "Flamingo Bucky" for Bucky on Parade, a public art project. Her parents, both artists, inspired her to pursue art, and now she's eager to spread her love of creativity to children.

Artist Brooke Wentland, a UW alum, designed "Baller Bucky" for Bucky on Parade, a public art project, as a tribute to the beloved sports history of UW. The statue's current home is outside of the Red Gym .

Artist Julie Hustad created "Bucky come se Picasso" for Bucky on Parade, a public art project, as an homage to Picasso. The statue's current home is outside of the Chazen Museum.

Artist Jeanne Burgess created "Leckrone's Stop at the Top" for Bucky on Parade, a public art project, in honor of Mike Leckrone, who has tirelessly directed the UW Marching Band since 1969.

Artists Philip Salamone and Sarah Gerg created the anatomically detailed "Visible Bucky" for Bucky on Parade, a public art project. Its current home is outside Science Hall.

Christy Grace, an artist based in Fitchburg, created the holographic, glittery "Celestial Bucky" for Bucky on Parade. Its current home is near Observatory Outlook.

Artist Dan Gardiner, who's had a long career creating murals, created the "Pucky" and the "Bucky Alvarez" statues as part of Bucky on Parade.

Bucky’s Classroom in session
Middle-school students from throughout the state toured UW–Madison this month as part of Bucky’s Classroom, an outreach program that aims to increase college awareness and help young people explore career options.
