Super marimba gathers threads of artistic career in SOM concert
Payton MacDonald calls the super marimba “the nexus of all my artistic activities. Here I combine my study of tabla drumming [of northern India], Western classical composition, jazz improvisation. These allow me to build up an infinite melodic flow at multiple rhythmic levels, creating a dense tangle of sound that grooves and sings.”
The super marimba itself is amplified and its sounds are fed through looping machines. Hear the results in concert, courtesy of the School of Music, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, in the Mosse Humanities Building’s Morphy Hall. For more information, call 263-9485.
