Students plan clean-up

April 20, 2001

UW–Madison students from the Bradley Learning Community will conduct an outdoor cleanup project in the vicinity of Bradley Hall and the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path Saturday, April 21, noon-2 p.m. They will begin on the lakeshore side of Bradley, 1900 Willow Drive.

Shortly thereafter, Evelyn Howell, a professor of environmental studies and landscape architecture, will give a brief talk to the students about the purpose and history of Earth Day. Howell’s research and teaching has centered on the conservation and stewardship of native plant communities.

A barbecue and games follow the cleanup and Howell’s presentation.

The project is one of several Madison-area volunteer opportunities the Bradley community service group has organized. Throughout the academic year, members have tutored in local schools, served dinner at a homeless shelter, participated in an AIDS walk, and conducted other service activities.

About 40 Bradley students have been working this semester to create a video about the Bradley experience. They organized into groups that focused on topics such as social life, academics, community service and the role of alcohol in student life. They hope to debut the video at the annual Bradley end-of-the-year picnic on May 9.
