Students, faculty put life in new light in dance concerts
Dance Program students will explore tough issues — and hope to provide insight into dealing with them — during their fall concert, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8. Individual pieces will take inspiration from a Scottish epic poem, Spanish flamenco tradition, video tech and more.
Curtain is at 8 p.m. in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space in Lathrop Hall. Tickets, $5 general and $3 UW–Madison students, are available at the door. Information: 262-1691.
Dance Professor Li Chiao-Ping will take her company, Li Chiao-Ping Dance, to the Wisconsin Union Theater on Thursday, Nov. 13, for a performance of her new work, “The Bach Project.” In collaboration with contemporary composers, the company will integrate Bach’s Cello Suites No. 1 and No. 5 as interpreted by avant-garde electronic musician and media artist Stephen Vitiello and vocalist/accordionist Amy Denio. Ryan Smith’s composition for computer, “Where She Left Off,” based on the Bach Suite No. 4, also will be part of the evening. In addition, the company will feature elder performers who have taken Li’s workshops at three area senior centers.
The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets, $16 general and $13 UW–Madison students, are available through the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office, 262-2201.
