Student journalists to attend College Media Day
More than 80 student journalists from 16 private and public colleges and universities from around Wisconsin will gather in Madison on Friday, April 23, to learn about writing reviews and pop culture articles, reporting on higher education issues and participating in a news conference.
Wisconsin College Media Day will feature a news conference with Gov. Jim Doyle and interviews with Linda Weimer, vice president for university relations at the University of Wisconsin System, and Rolf Wegenke, president of the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Other sessions will include tips on covering rock stars, news conferences, higher education and popular culture trends. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best stories and reviews coming out of the day.
The event runs from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Memorial Union on the UW–Madison campus and at the state Capitol. It is free for students from two- or four-year public or private colleges in Wisconsin.
Students will be attending from Cardinal Stritch University, Concordia University, Edgewood College, Marquette University, UW-Baraboo, UW-Fond du Lac, UW-Eau Claire, UW–Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Waukesha, UW-Whitewater and Viterbo University.
