Student engineering magazine wins national awards
The Wisconsin Engineer magazine won seven awards at the 1998 Engineering College Magazines Association (ECMA) National Convention in Madison.
The magazine, published by the UW–Madison students, won the following ECMA awards:
- 1st Prize-Best All Around Magazine
- 1st Prize-Most Entertaining Feature
- 2nd Prize-Best Layout All Issues
- 2nd Prize-Best Cover All Issues
- Honorable Mention-Best Layout of a Single Issue
- Honorable Mention-Best Single Cover
- Honorable Mention-Best Article for General Science Background
This is the second year in a row that the Wisconsin Engineer has been judged the Best All-Around Magazine.
The award for Most Entertaining Feature went to Industrial Engineering Senior Sheri Schneider, for her April, 1997 article describing the design of a “Urilet” -a combination urinal and toilet.
The Wisconsin Engineer hosted the 1998 ECMA conference from April 23-26 on the College of Engineering campus. The conferees, from all over the United States, learned about magazine production, design, illustration, editing, advertising and managment.
The 1999 Conference will be held in Washington, D.C. and will be hosted by Howard University.
