Student dancers showcase work
Students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Dance Program are now busy rehearsing for a spring concert to be presented April 12-13, 8 p.m. in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave.
Concertgoers can expect to see choreography ranging from a raw, hard-edged solo to a group work about dance and being a dancer. Long distance friendships, personal relationships, nervousness vs. pleasure, full vs. empty, and how we perceive one another and ourselves are additional themes explored through movement, live piano composition, vocals and video.
“March is always wild for our students and this year is no exception,” says dance professor and student concert coordinator Jin-Wen Yu. “Earlier this month, many of them performed in my Intervision concert in Lathrop Hall. Shortly after that, they traveled to ACDF (the regional American College Dance Festival in Iowa) and were invited to perform in the Gala Concert, which was a great experience and a tremendous honor. Now they’re back in the studios rehearsing for their April concert.”
Showing works this spring are student choreographers Joana DaCosta (senior, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Karen Heusinger (senior, Madison), Caroline Holden (junior, Madison), Meghan McCoy (senior, Sussex, Wis.), Emily Plotkin (junior, Mequon, Wis.), Kelly Radermacher (senior, Chaska, Minn.) and Alison Rootberg (sophomore, Long Grove, Ill.).
All are Dance Program scholarship award winners, and McCoy and Radermacher are also honors grant recipients.
Tickets: $10 public, $5 students Friday, April 12, and $8 for students Saturday, April 13, Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office, 800 Langdon St., (608) 262-2201, or at the door.
