Strauss’ ‘Fledermaus’ to open UW Opera season
The world’s most-performed opera will get a Wisconsin spin this fall, courtesy of the UW-Madison Opera.
Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” will open University Opera’s 2005-06 season, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. Other show times are 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, all in Music Hall.
Based on a French vaudeville standard, “Le reveillon,” “Die Fledermaus” follows the progress of an assortment of wanton merrymakers as they waltz their way through an evening of wry misadventures.
“Die Fledermaus,” directed by William Farlow, features students from the UW–Madison School of Music in the principal roles, accompanied by the UW–Madison Symphony.
Tickets, $18 general/$10 UW–Madison students, are available through the Vilas Hall Box Office, 262-1500. Purchase day-of-show tickets one hour before the performance at Music Hall.
