St. Petersburg Times writer to visit

Alecia Swasy, assistant managing editor/business at the St. Petersburg Times, will serve as this semester’s business writer-in-residence March 25-30.

During her week’s residency Swasy will speak to classes in journalism and business, consult with students and faculty, and talk with Madison business and media professionals.

Swasy joined the Times staff as business editor in 1996 and was named assistant managing editor/business in 1999. She previously was a staff reporter for the Wall Street Journal, working in the Journal’s Pittsburgh and Atlanta bureaus. Prior to the Journal, she was a business reporter at the St. Petersburg Times and Lexington Herald-Leader.

Sway is the author of “Soap Opera: The Inside Story of Procter & Gamble” and “Changing Focus: Kodak and the Battle to Save a Great American Company.” She also reviews business books for the New York Times’ Sunday “Off the Shelf” column.

Swasy earned her bachelor of arts degree in 1985 from Pennsylvania State University, where she was editor of The Daily Collegian.
