Special Guest To Honor Moser in Opera Benefit
An opera pro who studied voice in the UW–Madison School of Music will help Opera Props honor University Opera artistic director Karlos Moser in a benefit concert Feb. 27.
Charlotte Hellekant has sung leading roles at such centers of the art as Paris’ Opera Bastille, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Metropolitan Opera, Washington Opera and more. She currently is performing in Gyorgy Ligeti’s “Le grand macabre” at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. In 1990 she appeared in the University Opera production of Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos.”
Moser retired from the School of Music in 1997 after 36 years there. He continues as artistic director of the Opera while the school conducts a search for his successor.
The Hellekant concert will benefit Opera Props’ fund for UW–Madison voice students. Opera Props is an independent organization providing financial and other support for University Opera and artists in the program.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Music Hall. Tickets, $45 and $25, are available from Charles Anderson, (608) 273-2637. Reservations are due by Feb. 20.
