Some campus streets partly closed for Madison Marathon this weekend

The UW–Madison Police Department is welcoming thousands of athletes and spectators from all over the country to the 2014 Madison Marathon on Sunday, and asks runners, residents and visitors to keep in mind that many downtown roads will have lane restrictions because of the race.

On campus, those roads include:

• Arboretum Drive westbound lane closed; enter only from Seminole Highway.
• Breese Terrace northbound lane closed.
• Old University Avenue westbound lane closed.
• Walnut Street between University Avenue and Observatory Drive, northbound lane closed.
• Observatory Drive east of Walnut Street, eastbound lane closed.
• Charter Street between Observatory Drive and University Avenue, northbound lane closed.

The race kicks off Sunday morning, Nov. 9, with the first runners hitting the course at 7 a.m.

While some traffic lanes will be inaccessible, residents in the area will be allowed access to their homes. In addition, motorists with appointments at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine will be let in. The UW Vet Emergency Clinic will remain open via Babcock Drive to Linden Drive.

UWPD asks drivers to plan for extra travel time if they are in the campus area Sunday and to use extra caution, as many runners and pedestrians will be present downtown for the event.
