Several changes at the Union
Memorial Union patrons will see some new features this fall.
Expanded smoke-free areas on the Terrace: Union Council, the governing board of the Wisconsin Union, which includes Memorial Union and Union South, voted to further increase the smoke-free areas outdoors on the Memorial Union Terrace. The policy became effective June 14.
Additional smoke-free areas include the Upper Terrace bordered by Lakefront on Langdon, der Rathskeller and the Union Theater, as well as the Class of 1936 Plaza that is directly between the windows of Lakefront on Langdon and the Lower Terrace.
Smoking is permitted on the Lower Terrace in front of the stage and on the lakeshore path next to Lake Mendota, which is not technically Union property. The Theater Plaza above Hoofers has been smoke-free since 1993.
During inclement weather, there are several designated covered outdoor areas where smoking is permitted 25 feet from building entrances (required by the state of Wisconsin).
Taqueria del Lago opens in Lakefront on Langdon: If you’re into Tex-Mex cuisine, you’ll like what’s being served in the Lakefront on Langdon in Memorial Union. The Taqueria del Lago, which opened Sept. 4, features traditional tacos with flavorful grilled or stewed meats served on griddled soft corn tortillas with authentic seasoning and fresh ingredients.
Terrace Web camera: How are things on the Terrace? To find out, all you need to do is visit Union Web cam.
