Seminar on careers for women in finance Nov. 19

A panel of six successful business women will discuss their careers in finance at a “Women in Finance” seminar at the School of Business Friday, Nov. 19.

Presented by the Department of Finance, Investment and Banking, the seminar will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Grainger Hall. It will provide in-depth discussions, information-sharing and networking opportunities relating to careers in finance. The program is designed to inform undergraduate and graduate students–especially those in business, economics, engineering, math, law and computer science–about educational and career opportunities for women in the field of finance.

“The seminar’s speakers are all successful role models willing to share their experiences and offer advice in order to help others make sound education and career decisions,” says Howard Thompson, chair of the business school’s Finance Department. “I believe students who attend will be surprised at the opportunities available to women in the field of finance.”

Guest speakers come from as far away as New York and as near as downtown Madison. They are Renee Anderson, portfolio strategist, Invista Capital Management, Des Moines, Iowa; Maryann Bast, senior vice president/investment officer, Dain Rauscher, Madison; Betsy Hill, senior corporate bond analyst, Alliance Capital Management, New York, NY; Patricia Lipton, executive director, State Investment Board, Madison; Clare Shiedermayer, first vice president, Merrill Lynch & Co., New York, NY; and Kristin Yates, partner, Holt Smith and Yates Advisors, Madison.
