Section of University Bay Drive to close for two months
Campus commuters and visitors should note that University Bay Drive between Walnut Street and the entrance to Lot 60 will be closed to traffic on Monday, April 11, and remain closed until mid-June.
During that time, construction crews will be completing the Lot 76 ramp project, installing new sidewalks and curbs and reconstructing the roadway.
All vehicles, including campus and other Madison Metro buses, will be rerouted through Lot 60 during the two-month closure.
The bus stops on the east and west sides of University Bay Drive near the Lot 76 site will be closed as well. Madison Metro has not yet decided whether temporary stops will be created on the Lot 60 road. There are stops both eastbound and westbound on Walnut Street at Lot 60.
The buses will continue to serve UW Hospital and Clinics.
On another traffic note: Sanitary sewer work began this week on Babcock Drive between Observatory and Kronshage drives. The contractor is required to keep the road open at all times, though there may be times when there may be brief delays. Drivers are asked to be patient. Access to Lot 34 and Holt Commons will be maintained.
Once the sewer project is completed in about two weeks, work will begin on a new water main along the west side of Babcock Drive. Motorists should watch for traffic control at the Observatory Drive intersection.
