Science Videojournalist To Spend Week on Campus

Jane Ellen Stevens, a science journalist with New York Times Television, has been named a 1997 Science Writer in Residence by UW–Madison.
A reporter of 25 years experience, Stevens has video credits which include National Geographic Explorer, Frontline and segments for Science Times, a production of New York Times Television.
Stevens has published numerous articles in such print venues as the New York Times, National Geographic, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Dallas Morning News, BioScience, Discover and Vogue.
Stevens will spend a week on the UW–Madison campus beginning Nov. 30. She will deliver a free public lecture, “Reporting for Multimedia: Of Mavens, Max Headroom and High-tech Storytellers,” on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. in the Nafziger Room on the fifth floor of Vilas Hall.
Stevens will spend most of her time on campus in classes and working independently with students, faculty and staff interested in science journalism.
The Science Writer in Residence Program was established in 1986 with the help of the Brittingham Trust. It continues with the support of the UW Foundation and has brought to the UW–Madison campus many of the nation’s leading science writers including three writers whose work subsequently earned them the Pulitzer Prize.
The program is sponsored by the Office of News and Public Affairs and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
