School of veterinary medicine sponsors 21st annual Dog Jog
The dogs are at it again! Hundreds of canine paws and wagging tails will join their owners in the 21st annual Dog Jog on Sunday, Sept. 19, to raise money to benefit homeless animals.
Last year’s race raised $30,000, and event organizers hope to raise even more this year.
The Dog Jog will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the School of Veterinary Medicine, 2015 Linden Drive, on the west end of campus. Sponsored by the school’s Companion Animal Club, this two-mile run/walk draws both two- and four-legged participants from across the state.
Participants can win prizes for collecting the most pledges, best costume and best finish times. Proceeds benefit humane organizations that participate in the veterinary school’s Cooperative Shelter Spay/Neuter Program for shelter pets or that participate in other school activities that directly benefit sheltered animals.
Beneficiaries include Angel’s Wish in Dane County and the humane societies in the counties of Dane, Dodge (Beaver Dam), Fond du Lac, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Rock, Sauk and Washington, and the Watertown Humane Society in Jefferson County.
To register for the event, pick up forms at Mounds Pet Food Warehouse or at area veterinary clinics (including the school’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital), visit the school’s Web site or call (608) 263-1010.
