School of Medicine and Public Health responds to MSC fire

The following message was sent to School of Medicine and Public Health students, faculty and staff in the wake of a fire on Feb. 28, 2012 in the Medical Sciences Center. No one was injured, but the building was damaged.

Students, faculty and staff of SMPH,

As I’m sure you’re already aware, we experienced a fire this morning, Thursday, Feb. 28 in the fourth floor of the Medical Sciences Center. We’re thankful that there were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished.

I want to pass along our sincere appreciation to the men and women of the Madison Fire Department and UWPD for managing the situation. I also want to thank many staff members for their hard work to assess and respond to this situation.

Lastly, thanks to all of you for your flexibility and understanding today. I also want to provide an update on our facilities and the impact on our operations:

–SMI, Medical Sciences, and Bardeen have fully reopened.

–MSC: MSC is only open to faculty and staff with access security control cards.  Gross Anatomy and Physiology Classes will not be held in MSC on Friday. Students in these classes can expect to receive information from their instructor about the location of Friday meetings.

–MSC: N and D wings are closed. We are developing a restoration and clean up plan. We have attempted to contact all occupants of N and D wing. Those associated with those labs should contact me directly.

We will continue to update you as the building returns to normal operations.
