ROTC events mark Veterans Day beginning Saturday
The observation of Veterans Day Monday, Nov. 11 will be marked by several events involving the ROTC programs at UW–Madison:
On Saturday, Nov. 7, starting at 5 a.m. the Air Force ROTC cadets will hold a “flag run” around Camp Randall in honor of POWs and MIAs for the six hours prior to the home football game at 11:10 a.m. The ROTC event will involve two cadets holding the American flag at any given time as they run.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, three events are slated:
- Air Force cadets will take shifts sitting inside a pseudo-POW cage outside the Air Force ROTC detachment at 1402 University Ave. from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- A mass retreat for Navy, Army and Air Force ROTC students will be held from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in front of the State Historical Society, featuring speakers and a flag ceremony.
- The Air Force cadets will observe a candlelight vigil in front of the detachment from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The Air Force ROTC events during the week are being coordinated by the detachment’s Arnold Air Society, a service organization. For details, call Suzanne Ovel at 264-3490 or e-mail: smovel@students.wisc.edu.
