Rolnick to be guest artist

Composer and performer Neil Rolnick will teach, perform and produce a technology-mediated performance during a two-week residency at the university beginning Monday, Oct. 2.

Rolnick is chair of the Department of Arts and Director of the iEAR (Integrated Electronic Arts) Studios at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

Rolnick will present a lecture/demonstration Monday, Oct. 2, at 5:30 p.m., in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave., discussing his work — he performs on a portable computer music system — and how he plans to create the collaborative “live” performance event to held Saturday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m.

The free performance, an Internet event with interactive Web participation, in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall, 1050 University Ave.

“We are very pleased Neil is available to work with our students for this two-week period,” says professor Joseph Koykkar, interarts and technology coordinator and music director for the Dance Program.

“Neil wants to collaborate with student artists, musicians, performers and producers on a technology-mediated performance involving Internet technology, interactive computer systems and other related technologies,” Koykkar says. “It’s a great opportunity for students wishing to help create a cutting-edge work that can stand on its own as a live performance.”
