Pam Wittenwyler, a 1992 graduate of UW–Madison, takes a break from running at Picnic Point to throw a floating dog toy into the chilly water of Lake Mendota for her seven-year-old Labrador Retriever, Joey, on a wintry-looking day Dec. 2. Wittenwyler said that her dog “swims almost every day of his life.” The snow-dusted area is part of UW–Madison’s Lakeshore Nature Preserve.
