Recent Sightings: Canoe on the move
From left, Tom DuBois, professor of Scandinavian studies and comparative literature and folklore studies, and Colin Connors, graduate student in Scandinavian studies, are spotted supporting a birchbark canoe as it is driven a short distance along Observatory Drive toward a launch site near the Memorial Union Terrace. The canoe – handmade last autumn by Wayne Valliere – was then paddled on Lake Mendota by Valliere and his son back to Dejope Residence Hall for installation as part of a permanent display. Valliere is a Native American artist-in-residence with the Art Department and member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
