Real estate conference to examine challenges, opportunities in today’s housing markets

The Wisconsin School of Business Graaskamp Center for Real Estate will host the conference Challenges and Opportunities in Today’s Housing Markets on Friday, June 6, from 8:30 a.m. — 4:15 p.m. at the Fluno Center for Executive Education.

Jim Bullard, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will serve as the event’s featured keynote speaker, marking the new CEO’s first major public address since taking office in April.

The conference, held annually, will focus public attention on national industry trends as well as Wisconsin’s status relative to the rest of the nation. It will also provide an outline of what to expect in the housing market over the next five years.

A series of panel discussions will analyze the causes and consequences of subprime lending; how mortgage markets will evolve in reaction to the events of the past year; what responses are likely from private markets and government regulators; the impacts of the housing crunch on commercial real estate and the nation’s economy; and what state and local governments can expect on the revenue and expenditure side.

Joining Bullard on the presenters list will be a range of leading real estate experts, including government officials, housing professionals and academic researchers. See a complete list of speakers, a schedule of events and a downloadable brochure.

Professionals from the area of housing and housing finance, government and non-profit groups, builders and developers, and anyone interested in community development are strongly encouraged to attend. Cost to attend the conference on June 6 is $95 per registrant.
